Alison Wear

My pieces are hand built stoneware that are naked raku or smoke fired.
The feel of the clay in my hands dictates their eventual form and character.
I burnish the work but do not use glazes, preferring the smoke and fire to infuse the clay body.
My work is fired in a pit, a bonfire or simply a metal dustbin filled with combustible materials.
I value this low-tech approach as it is exciting and unpredictable, and it makes each piece unique.
