Thrown and coiled stoneware vessels. I make sculptural vessels that are often a composite of thrown and coiled elements. A thrown pedestal base ensures a sturdy balance for the coiled body thus enabling me to introduce some torque and movement within a piece. Working in series, together these vessels begin to form a dialogue, both between themselves and the viewer. Brushed on layers of coloured slips give a painterly quality to the surface and a bone ash glaze a subdued milky opacity.
