Gilly Whittington

I work in porcelain, mostly thrown and sometimes altered. I have been inspired by the paintings of the abstract expressionists of the 1950s, particularly Lee Krasner, and hope by the freely applied brushstrokes of my coloured ash glazes to achieve a sense of movement and energy. Last year I moved from firing in a reduction kiln in France to an electric kiln in the UK, where I continue to test and develop my glazes. Besides my one off pieces I have also a range of very practical tableware.
